GRID3 works with countries in sub-Saharan Africa to generate, validate and use geospatial data on population, settlements, infrastructure, and boundaries.

GRID3 is part of a consortium of partners that support the use of geospatial data and tools for reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition (RMNCHN) services in Nigeria. In close collaboration with the other implementing partners, GRID3 will provide training and technical assistance for the use of best-available data and implement new tools in order to improve the quality of RMNCHN-related data and microplans.

We are looking for a consultant based in Abuja to work as part of the GRID3 Nigeria team and coordinate GRID3’s work plan for the RMNCHN project. An ideal candidate is passionate about geospatial data, understands the use of GIS to guide public health decisions, is familiar with microplanning, and has experience engaging with relevant stakeholders, specifically with MoH and its agencies in Nigeria.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The consultant coordinates GRID3 activities and work plans for the RMNCHN project. He/she/they works closely with GRID3 colleagues (virtually with the global teams and in person with the Nigeria team) and represents GRID3 in meetings with consortium partners, donor representatives, and government partners.

The consultant’s tasks include:

Work with GRID3 leadership and technical teams to align in-country needs with donor commitments, project deliverables, and timelines
Create and effectively implement the RMNCHN project-specific work plans
Facilitate communication and collaboration between GRID3 and consortium partners
Track progress of activities and share regular status updates
Identify bottlenecks, risks, and other challenges and work with GRID3 teams to identify and implement appropriate responses
Track project-level budgets and expenditures
Track project-specific outputs, outcomes, and milestones and use the agreed processes and tools for status and donor reporting
Work with communications and M&E staff to document lessons learned, disseminate project results, and tell GRID3 success stories
Represent GRID3 in external meetings and events related to the RMNCHN project
Any other task relevant to the use of geospatial data or geo-enabled microplanning that may be assigned by GRID3 leadership or GRID3 Nigeria Country Manager

Required Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g GIS, public health, data science)
At least 5 years of experience in managing GIS-related projects
At least 5 years of relevant experience working and communicating with government officials and implementing partners, especially NPHCDA, NCDC / Federal Ministry of Health, WHO, UNICEF, etc.
Exceptional communication and organizational skills, including the ability to organize and lead meetings, create and deliver slide presentations, and write reports
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage high-level relationships, work collaboratively with a range of partners, and facilitate multi-stakeholder and strategic discussions
Must possess a strong understanding of geospatial concepts and principles and be able to articulate the value of geospatial data and understand its applications in the health sector
Experience in the use of geographic information systems (GIS) software (e.g. ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS) for data management, data visualization, and data analysis
Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace applications, and teleconferencing software (Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
Full working proficiency in English
Self-motivated, proactive, able to work with minimum supervision, and able to meet tight deadlines
Ability to travel domestically to the project’s target states

Preferred Qualifications:

An advanced degree in a relevant field
Experience using geospatial data in decision-making processes
Established relationships with NPHCDA, FMoH, WHO, UNICEF, and other relevant stakeholders
Knowledge of national data systems and best-available data sources in Nigeria
Understanding of the landscape of donor organizations, development agencies, and relevant initiatives in Nigeria
Experience in monitoring and evaluation assessments and field research
